Jeremiah chapter 17 verses 7 and 8.

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, who's trust is the Lord.

He's like a tree planted by water.

It sins out its roots by the stream and does not fear when heat comes.

For its leaves remain green and is not anxious in the year of drought.

For it does not cease to bear fruit.

What a picture of trust in God and what it looks like in a world of heat and drought.

In other words, a world where challenges abound and valleys come as we all know in our lives.

And there's a contrast here.

I didn't read verses 5 and 6, but verse 5 says,

this cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength.

Whose heart turns away from the Lord.

So when you trust in yourself, when I trust in myself or in the things of this world

and even ultimately other people in this world, that's going to lead to curse.

Not blessing, verse 7.

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord.

And in this phrase, who's trust is the Lord.

Your trust is God, all your trust, all your faith.

You're banking everything on God.

And what that leads to is living like a tree planted by water with roots sent out by the stream.

That does not fear when heat comes.
