It's Tyler Webster with the Western Wing Shooter podcast. I am joined today by an absolute living legend. Thank you very much, Mr. Jim Shockey for joining us today on the Mount Rushmore of hunters. For me, you're right up there towards the top there, sir. So thank you so much for taking a little bit of time to join me today. This is going to be a little bit of a departure from a normal podcast since I'm normally talking about upland bird hunting primarily,

but I am just so interested in your life and all the different hunting that you've done across

a world, literally across the world, that I wanted to take an opportunity and get you on the

podcast if I could. So thank you so much for joining me. You're totally welcome. It's my pleasure. I'm not so sure I can do much on the wing shooting. I saw turkey hunting too. I go, no, man, I'm the worst turkey hunter in the world. Oh, no, that, hey, me too. Me too. No, we, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I'd really like to talk about, wing shooting at all. I'm just interested in talking, uh, talking to you about, uh, talking to you know, whether it love of kind of the adventure side of these, these hunts that you've gone on,

you know, whether it's on uncharted or any of the other TV shows you've done across the years.

Where did that and kind of love of the adventure side of the outdoors come from in you?

I was born a peregrinator.

I mean, even from a young age, I was always, you know, looking over the next rise, you know, hills in those days and, you know, across the next little slew, whatever. It was a high adventure for me when I was six, seven years old, sneaking out of home at six in the morning and heading off.

I grew up right on the outskirts of Saskatoon in a little trailer park.

And then when we finally bought a house, it was right on the edge of Sastoon.

So I'd sneak out in the mornings before Mom and Dad were up

and, you know, cross the highway.

I remember, you know, ridiculous nowadays.

You let a kid do that or a kid would even, you know, be allowed.

And I'd go looking for mice and gophers and, you know, exploring the old farm buildings that I'd find it.

I'd take my bike to a place called Beaver Creek. And it was like

high, high adventure for me. And as I got older, I, you know, the distances just became greater.

Sure, sure. They couldn't get a whole lot greater. I don't think they have a whole lot to hunt on the

moon. But other than that, I think you've been pretty much every place else. Yeah. What's that? How does that phone go? I need something to test my metal, send me to hell, and I'll hunt the devil. You know, so I've never been there yet either. But anywhere that you've been. That's right. Yeah. You know, I was talking to a buddy of mine.

I was having some dinner.

I'm over here in Minneapolis for a few days doing some work. And he knows that I do a bird hunting podcast primarily. And he's like, you're having Jim Shockey on the podcast. It's kind of a departure for you. I was like, well, it's basically like, you know, Jack O'Connor, Ernest Hemingway meets Anthony Bourdain.
