In May, American companies were barred from selling components and software to the firm on the grounds that it posed a national security risk.

All this spells big trouble for Huawei.

Much of its profits come from the global sale of smartphones,

but its new model is launching in a week, and its Android operating system developed by Google will be stripped back.

They won't have apps such as Google Maps and YouTube, or the Google Play Store,

where the likes of WhatsApp and Instagram are available.

It's more than enough to worry Huawei's founder and chief executive Ren Zhengfei.

But in an interview with the economist, the billionaire revealed a bold idea he thinks could rescue the company.

So a group of journalists from the economists were invited to the headquarters of Huawei,
