So we just had the first head-to-head debate and once again there was plenty of blue and blue.

We had Liz Truss accused Rishi Sunack of peddling project fear. Here's what she had to say.

You just mentioned three countries. Do you know what mortgage rates are in the US at the moment?

Do you want to use them as an example? Their mortgage rates were almost 50% higher than

mortgage rates in this country because they're borrowing so much. I'm sorry, this canada actually has

project fear. And we had Rishi Sunack accused Liz Truss of offering a short-term sugar

hire when it came to economic plans. Here's what he had to say.

That's simply not right. You promised almost 40 billion pounds of unfunded tax cuts, 40 billion

pounds more borrowing. That is the country's credit card. It's our children and grandchildren.

And everyone here is who is going to have to pick up the tab for that. Rishi, that is not true.

Yeah, I thought it was both of them were on sugar hire. Perhaps a Mexican coke hire,

whatever it is, this drink that Rishi Sunack is particularly keen on. But Rishi Sunack in

particular was on a really sort of Rishi Sunack was in a really offensive mood against Liz Truss

and you can understand that the sort of backdrop to that, which is him trying to make up the 24

points that he's training behind her in the poll on who's going to win the leadership contest.
