A few months ago, the relationship between the U.S. and Ukraine appeared to be at an all-time

low. President Donald Trump was publicly castigating Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky

in the Oval Office. Defense Secretary Pete Hexgesath said Ukraine better not hope to keep its old

borders because that simply wasn't going to happen. All this seemed to be laying out the groundwork

for the U.S. and Russia to get along better. President Trump seemed to be signaling to Vladimir

Putin if you're ready to call it quits, we are too. Just one problem, Russia kept bombing.
