Good evening. Once again, I am Stephanie Ruhl. Moments ago, I hit my funny bone on this chair,

and I am not sure I'm going to make it for the hour. But let's get started at least now with

money, power, and politics. Tonight, starting the show with it, specifically the Iran War and

what it means for the global economy, the American economy, in your personal bottom line.

Today, the International Monetary Fund warned

that the war has upended the entire global economy and that the problems for the oil markets

could cause slower growth, higher inflation, and the possibility of a global recession.

As they put in the report, the global outlook has abruptly darkened following the outbreak of war in the Middle East.

Well, today, the White House, no surprise, sent out a whole bunch of surrogates to try to spin the story and convince the world that the pain is only short-term, though I will point out they didn't offer us an interview.

An increase in the oil price that's related to disruption in the Middle East is something

that we've seen over and over again.

And it doesn't cause an increase in inflation.

It's just sort of a level adjust that will quickly reverse itself when the situation is resolved.

Proud of the president's actions does cause a few

weeks of dislocation to the American economy, but we're going to get through it and get to a

much better place afterwards. And now we're going to put an economic squeeze on them,

end their oil revenues from coming out of their country. There'll be other sources of economic
