Justice Department after Matt Gates withdrew from contention.

Ms. Bondi served as one of Mr. Trump's lawyers during the first impeachment trial.

Mr. Gates gave up amidst allegations that he had paid women for sex, which he denied.

Enough Republican senators were prepared to block his nomination.

Russia confirmed that it launched a medium-range ballistic missile at the eastern Ukrainian

city of Nipro.

In a national address, Vladimir Putin, Russia's president, claimed that there were, quote,

currently no ways of counteracting

its new hypersonic weapon, and said that the attack was in response to Ukraine's recent use of American

and British made long-range missiles. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants

for Israel's Prime Minister,

Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defence minister, Joav Galant, over war crimes in Gaza.

The top UN court said it suspected they were responsible for causing mass starvation in the enclave.
