We begin now, though, with the national agenda for this incoming Congress. In the election, voters maintained Republican control the House.

You might remember where you were that night, watching Steve at the big board, and they put

Republicans in charge of the Senate. So for all the attention on the presidential race,

that congressional outcome is huge. Republicans campaigned on issues like prices and immigration, and the new administration

says it will tackle those issues, but there are clear developments I can tell you about right now,

our top story tonight, that show what congressional Republicans are doing with their newfound power.

So this election, as you have heard, may have turned on the price of eggs. That's the saying

anyway, I bet you've heard it. But Republican leaders are rushing to use their power to do things

that seem pretty unrelated or even contradictory, like cut support for seniors and health care

for seniors and cut health care for Americans actually of all ages.

We're going to have to have some hard decisions.

We got to bring the Democrats in to talk about Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare.

There's hundreds of billions of dollars to be saved, and we

know how to do it.

We just have to have a stomach to actually take those challenges on.
