Tonight, the summit at the White House. Two days after Trump's meeting with Vladimir Putin,

President Zelensky and European leaders rushed to Washington for talks to end the war in Ukraine.

Then, the president threatens an executive order to end mail-in voting. Small problem with that.

Good evening. I'm Jacob Soberoff in for Stephanie Rule. It is day 211 of the second Trump

administration. And today, Ukraine's President Zelensky and leaders of several key European allies

came to the White House. It is clear that they were there to support Zelensky in his effort to

end the war that Russia began, as well as to

help him defend Ukraine's interests. But it also appeared to be an attempt to damage control after

last week's Alaska summit between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. At one point today, Trump was

caught on a hot mic talking about Putin's intentions.

I think he wants to make a deal for me.

You understand that, as crazy as it sounds me.

President Trump says that at the conclusion of today's meetings,

he called Vladimir Putin.

The two of them discussed a meeting between Putin and Zelensky,

which would be followed by a meeting with the two men plus Trump. According to the Kremlin,

the call between Trump and Putin lasted 40 minutes. My colleague Tom Yamis has a closer look at today's summit at the White House. Today, President Trump's saying he's optimistic. People are being killed and we want to stop

that. So I would not say it's the end of the road. No, I think we have a good chance of doing it.

But there's been little sign of progress. Russia controls 20% of Ukraine and wants to keep that
