In his much-discussed interview with Time magazine, Donald Trump threatened to use the military to carry out mass deportations of undocumented immigrants if he is elected president.

He also added new details about how he envisions all this happening. The proposals he

laid out are appalling on their face, but we think another dimension to this is getting overlooked.

By regularly using vicious, dehumanizing tropes about migrants, Trump is trying to acclimate voters

to this kind of authoritarian language, which threatens to desensitize them

to this sort of talk and leads them to hear it as routine. Today we're talking to Maria Teresa

Kumar, the president of the advocacy group Voto Latino, who is launching a new effort with other

Hispanic leaders to sound the alarm about the threat Trump poses. Welcome, Maria. Great, thank you so much

for having me on the show. So in that Time magazine interview, Trump talked about using the National

Guard to carry out mass removals. He suggested he'd use funding incentives to pressure state and local

police departments into helping with those removals.
