Here are the top headlines from the Los Angeles Times.

President Trump just launched a trade war with America's closest neighbors.

Kate Linthacom and Patrick J. McDonnell report that the U.S. is now imposing a 25%

tariff on all imports from Mexico and Canada, except for Canadian oil and gas, which face a 10% tax.

China was also hit with new 10% tariffs.

Canada and China have already retaliated, and Mexico says it will announce their counter

tariffs soon.

Experts warn this could drive up prices for American consumers, especially on cars, food, and electronics.

Critics say the tariffs violate the idea of free trade in North America,

a system that has helped all three countries compete globally.

Trump, however, argues this will bring back manufacturing jobs to the U.S.

and curb illegal immigration. The Trump administration is slashing jobs at the Bureau of Reclamation,

which oversees dams and water delivery across the state.

Ian James reports that around 100 employees are being let go,

and that number could grow to 40% of the agency's workforce. Water agencies warn that cutting

experienced engineers and maintenance workers could threaten public safety and water reliability.

But the administration says this is about efficiency. They're offering buyouts and say fewer

bureaucrats will mean better management.

Some agricultural water agencies support the plan, hoping it will lead to more water deliveries.

Some California lawmakers are pushing to protect migrant workers from exploitation.
