Summary

President Donald Trump has been ranting wildly at the Supreme Court. In a pair of tweets after oral arguments over his effort to end birthright citizenship displeased him, Trump raged that the people are on his side, a dark hint that he will wield the wrath of his supporters against the high court. Then, after it dealt a setback to his use of the Alien Enemies Act for deportations, Trump shared a tweet from a top MAGA figure suggesting the release of terrorists near the justices’ homes. This was boosted by top MAGA accounts, and Stephen Miller then accused the courts of “sabotaging democracy.” We talked to legal commentator Matthew Seligman about why these veiled threats to defy the courts are trending inexorably toward a major confrontation, why his advisers are egging that on, and why there’s a danger that the Supreme Court could constrain itself to avoid that terrible outcome.  Looking for More from the DSR Network? President Donald Trump is very unhappy with how things went at the Supreme Court when it comes to his effort to end birthright citizenship.

1:11.6

He uncorked two angry epic tirades about the High Court, essentially putting it on notice that it had better rule his way on this and other matters coming before it or else. This may look like typical

1:17.9

Trumpian bullying and threats, but we think there's a game going on here that people are missing.

1:23.4

It's that Trump is, in a very real sense, playing chicken with the Supreme Court.

1:28.7

He's trying to bluff the justices into constraining themselves from putting limits on Trump's power.

We're going to explore how this really works today with one of our favorite legal commentators,

Matt, thanks for coming back on, man.

1:45.5

Thanks for having me. So Trump erupted twice at the Supreme Court on Truth Social. In one of his

tweets, he said, the radical left sleaze bags are playing the ref at the Supreme Court. They lost the

election in a landslide. I hope the Supreme Court doesn't fall for the games

they play. The people are with us in bigger numbers than ever before. Matt, it's a complete lie that

Trump won in a landslide. It was one of the most narrow victories in memory in an environment
