welcome to the Politico nerd cast I'm your host Scott Bland and we have a lot to talk about this week. We have a new Supreme Court nominee. We have a lot of protests going on around the country

about new activity from the Trump administration and yep we're still moving

cabinet officials through the Senate.

So we're going to dive into all that just before we do a couple quick notes.

All right, let's dive into the numbers that mattered this week.

The first one is 49, and that is the age of the nominee

to be the next associate justice on the Supreme Court Neil Gorsuch

who was put forward by President Trump this week. We'll talk about why that matters

and what his prospects are for affecting the court and affecting possibly the way the Senate works this week.

Our second data point is 35 or 35 plus and that's at least the number of congressional Republicans who have come out and

criticized the President's executive order on immigration and refugees that was issued late

last week, sparking big protests over the weekend.

And our third and final data point this week is zero.

That is the GOP's margin for error on confirmation for one of Trump's nominees that's

Betsy Devas has picked to lead the education department, who's

suffered some Republican defections.

So we're going to talk about all that and more this week.
