Summary

Inez Stepman of the Independent Women's Forum is in for Jim Geraghty for the Thursday 3 Martini Lunch. Today, Inez and Greg discuss President Trump's Iran speech, the agreement among congressional Republicans to fund most of the Department of Homeland Security, and another facepalm moment from Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.

First, they're glad President Trump once again explained just how devastatingly successful the U.S. military has been against Iran over the past month and that operations should be over within 2-3 weeks. But there are still big questions about what conditions we need to say it's over and what happens after that in the region.

Next, they react to House Speaker Mike Johnson agreeing to take up and pass the Senate bill funding most of Homeland Security, except parts of ICE and Customs and Border Protection. It's a win for airline passengers and also for DHS employees who haven't been paid since mid-February. But it's another example of Republicans making frustrating concessions.

Finally, they cringe at Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s unusual illustration defending the prevailing interpretation of birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment. Inez also explains why the Trump administration is unlikely to win the case currently before the court.

It's always great to be here.

Well, let's start with another busy day here with the president's speech on Iran last night.

0:26.0

Busy night with the successful launch, thankfully, of Artemis 2. But by 9 p.m. Eastern Time,

0:31.3

he was once again addressing the nation this time speaking on the issue of Iran.

0:36.1

He was talking about what we have accomplished, what's going to

0:39.3

be happening over the next couple of weeks, military-wise, more in vague terms than specific terms,

0:45.2

but he did throw some specific issues out there. And here's a little bit of what he had to say

last night. Thanks to the progress we've made, I can say tonight that we are on track

0:54.8

to complete all of America's military objectives shortly, very shortly. We are going to hit them

extremely hard over the next two to three weeks. We're going to bring them back to the Stone Ages

where they belong. In the meantime, discussions are ongoing. Regime change was not our goal.

1:13.3

We never said regime change, but regime change has occurred because of all of their original

leaders' death. They're all dead. The new group is less radical and much more reasonable.

1:26.6

Yet if during this period of time no deal is made,

1:29.1

we have our eyes on key targets. If there is no deal, we are going to hit each and every one of

their electric generating plants very hard and probably simultaneously. We have not hit their oil,
