Hey there from CNN. I'm David Rind with the five things you need to know for Wednesday, March 18th.

President Donald Trump continues to needle U.S. allies for not helping secure the Strait of Hormuz.

In a truth social post today, he floated the idea that if the military operation in Iran causes the regime to collapse,

other countries that use the strait should

be solely responsible for policing it.

Trump wrote, quote, that would get some of our non-responsive allies in gear and fast.

The president has criticized European nations for refusing his calls to send warships to escort oil

tankers through the strait.

Some leaders say they could be willing to join a coalition to patrol the contested waterway,

but only after active fighting ends.

Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command says the U.S. military dropped 5,000-pound guided bombs to target

Iranian missile sites near the strait that sit deep underground.

CNN's Orrin Lieberman is in Jerusalem and says Israel has signaled some of its next moves.

Israeli officials tell CNN that Israel is now targeting natural gas infrastructure as well as energy infrastructure,

and that this is coordinated with the United States.

This so far has not targeted oil infrastructure, that is the infrastructure that could most

quickly affect gas prices.

That appears to be an effort to try to keep the spike from gas prices and getting worse

too quickly.

An affiliate linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps says this opens a new phase of

the war and crosses
