Fool boy. What a week.

If you're feeling a bit unstable and discombobulated,

if you've been consuming a little too much cable news and too much chatter around the dinner table about the past few days events, I hear you, I'm feeling you.

The dangerous idea that I invite you to consider in the midst of all that, which might help us lift ourselves above it for a moment and not just listen to cable news anchors barking on about ballistics,

is that in the wake of the attempted assassination of Donald Trump,

I notice that we're on a knife edge in two ways.

The first is just the contingency of history.

I mean, the distance between where we currently are

and an America that looks very, very, very different is a distance of an inch and a half

in ballistics terms. You know, like AR-15s are very powerful. Eight shots were fired.

One was close enough to sever his ear.

He just had to move a fraction.

The wind just had to be slightly different.

A butterfly flapping its wings in the Amazon had to just behave slightly differently.

And the breeze coming from the northeast could have been slightly stronger.

I mean, you know, if his head had exploded like a watermelon,

pardon the analogy, but, you know, I'm not in favor of AHA 15,

so that's the blontest way of putting it.

Where would we be then?
