I had a great conversation with my friend and fellow nerd avenger, Norm Ornstein.

Initially, it was to talk about a piece you wrote back in January 2016 for the Atlantic called

the eight causes of Trumpism and why it's still relevant almost 10 years later.

Oh, over 10 years later.

My goodness, that's terrifying.

Also, though, a thing or two happened over the weekend that we had to check in about, and Norm tells us

whether or not he thinks there will be elections this year. So, check it out. Thanks for being here.

And as I had mentioned, I had wanted to talk about a piece you wrote for the Atlantic, January of 2016,

called the Eight Causes of Trumpism, so called, and where we are now compared to where we were,

what seems like several geological epochs ago.

But first, I think we have to address the fact that we don't have weekends anymore.

And once again, over the weekend, something happened to turn all eyes to Donald Trump and to weirdly, weirdly, use an alleged

attempted mass shooting to justify building a $400 billion ballroom. So I'm just curious what your

thoughts are about all this. So many thoughts about this.

One is there are a lot of unanswered questions here.

This guy was not shot.

They captured him without any wounds whatsoever. He's running around with a long gun, a handgun, multiple knives,

apparently with no shirt on, and the secret and runs through the magnetometer. We see all these

pictures of secret service with guns drawn,

he's sprinting away from them before he falls down and gets captured,
