Early on the morning of June 14, 2017, Steve Scalice was practicing for the annual Congressional

baseball game, Republicans vs. Democrats, when a crazed gunman armed to the teeth opened

fire on him and his teammates.

Scalice was badly wounded, his life only saved by two heroic police officers who took out

the shooter.

It was a shocking event, a brazen attack on members of Congress, and earned Scalice

sympathy and prayers from across the aisle while he recovered in the hospital.

To make me feel like it wasn't just me but the whole country had been shot at, I would

get to see a nation unified, to see different people from all different backgrounds, rooting

and praying and working for me to survive.

Scalice wrote in a book about the experience entitled Back in the Game.

Now, two years later, Scalice's House Minority Whip, number two in the GOP leadership,

during a period Washington seems more divided than ever.

How does Scalice square the lofty bipartisan sentiments he expressed in his book, with

the current state of all-out political warfare on Capitol Hill?

And how does he explain the unyielding loyalty that he and his GOP colleagues have for President

Trump, no matter how divisive his rhetoric and his policies?
