Columbia has become the first university to reach a settlement with the Trump administration over anti-Semitism allegations.

It promised to pay $200 million to the federal government, and with that, hundreds of millions

of dollars in scientific research grants will be restored. As we told you back in March,

$400 million in grants were terminated or frozen as a way to punish the Ivy League school for not

doing enough

to shut down anti-Semitism on campus. And all in all, $1.3 billion in research grants were threatened.

Well, now, Colombia is not only paying a multi-million dollar fine, it's also making some other

promises to the White House, like it will follow laws that keep race from being

considered in admissions and hiring. It will notify the government if an international student

gets arrested, and it will follow through on other commitments to reduce anti-Semitism, unrest,

and more. Columbia didn't admit any guilt and assured students its academic independence

is intact. Other schools like Harvard,

Cornell, and Northwestern have also been punished over similar accusations, so the Trump

administration now says those schools should look at the deal Columbia made and use it as a template
