Two weeks ago, the United States and Israel launched a massive bombing campaign against Iran,

killing the Supreme Leader and many other political and military senior officials on the very first night

and striking thousands of targets all across the country.

The Trump administration said the war would be over in weeks.

Trump himself said later that it was one in the first hour.

Driven by extreme hubris, Donald Trump and his entire team have made an extreme miscalculation.

Trump and the other officials in government said that there would be, quote, no U.S. boots on the ground.

And yet today's news is that 2,500 U.S. Marines are being sent to the war theater.

The Iranian government has made it very clear that they are prepared and capable to continue the war in order to thwart the efforts to crush their government and

permanently weaken Iran. Today, on day 14 of the war, Iran's leaders marched openly in the

streets of Tehran. The Strait of Hormuz remains closed. Oil prices have risen to above $100 a barrel.

Gas prices across the United States are surging to above 17%.

And the U.S. casualty list is growing.

Hundreds of U.S. service members have been wounded and at least 13 are now dead.

Of course, the casualties on the Iranian side is much greater, and the

death toll has exceeded 1,300 deaths.

We need a new system. We need a new society. We need to demand that which may have sounded

impossible even a few weeks ago, but is not only realizable, but an imperative necessity. I'm Leanne Seema Fullahan here with Brian Becker, and this is In The News, a segment of the Socialist program.
