Summary
The U.S. Supreme Court just threw a wrench into the broader, global economic plan that President Donald Trump was working to realize. In a 6–3 decision, the Supreme Court ruled that Trump did not have the legal authority to implement his tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
However, if different countries and foreign businesses were breathing a sigh of relief, it was very short-lived. That’s because within about an hour, Trump announced that he’s using a different law to implement a new set of tariffs, which, for some countries, are actually higher than the previous tariffs.
