Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook's attorney is

filing a lawsuit against President Trump after his extraordinary attempt to fire her on Monday,

citing unproven allegations of falsifying records on a mortgage. A U.S. President has never made a move

like this in the central bank's 111 year history, marking a significant escalation

in Trump's targeting of the Fed. Trump already raging against Chair Jerome Powell for refusing

to cut interest rates. And now many experts feared that the president's latest action could

spell the end of the institution's independence. The Supreme Court has made clear that the Fed occupies a distinctive place within the government,

but if it comes down to it, will this court side with the President's executive power like

it has done in recent cases?

And what would it mean if a Federal Reserve Governor is fired by the President without

cause?
