Will Washington become a kleptocracy?

Hello again, I'm Arminolny, and this is To the Point. Donald Trump promised to drain the swamp in Washington,

but critics say he's creating a new swamp

of potential conflicts of interest. The White House has opened a revolving door by appointing

lobbyists and corporate leaders to regulate the businesses they formerly worked for. Public

monies being spent at Trump properties and family members have the chance to enrich themselves

by making government policy.

Ethics officials and reporters say the flood of possible violations is so great

that a single scandal looks like it's just part of business as usual.

Later on today's talking point, Arkansas, still struggling to execute eight convicts by the end of this month. First, here's the news.

Other potential conflicts are already obvious from his appointments. And he's being sued for using his job to increase his profits. We'll hear more about all that. On today's talking point, once again, last-minute court rulings have cast doubt on Arkansas's effort to execute at least two of eight death row inmates as soon as this evening.

Time is running out on one of the drugs used for lethal injections, and there's an appeal

to re-examine crucial evidence.

First, this news update, research by the Obama administration showed that a pesticide made

by Dow chemical was linked to human brain damage, but the EPA's new director,

Scott Pruitt, has refused to ban it. The Obama administration also found that chloropyraphos
