Hello and welcome to what most people think this week

recording the day after the lunchtime after the Euro final of the night before and I had a very

interesting dilemma before we get into the actual result itself which is that I was ill but

became ill throughout the course of yesterday and thought about pulling out of a work engagement

but then became conscious that literally no one would believe me while the whole country

was out on the beer, on the packet,

whatever you want to say, I suddenly realized it was too late, really. And as I bring in my

guest, Ian Moore, a fantastic comedian and novelist, Ian, do you think anyone would have credited

it if I'd have rung in sick the following morning? Absolutely no. Absolutely no. In fact,

I remember ringing in, this would be 2004, I think it was,

the Euros in 2004, and England were playing in Portugal, and I was supposed to be at the

backyard, and I rang up and said, I can't do it. I'm not going to be well. I didn't really

phrasing it. I'm not going to be well. And then the manager of the club rode back a couple of days later, I just said, you're never working for us again. And I said, well, all right, if that's the way you want to have it, I'm still watching the football. Yes, yes. I mean, well, I mean, if I remember 2004 was probably one of those penalty shootouts where someone got sent off and

we burnt effigies of someone.

That was the way that we used to lose.

Now, I mean, there was something kind of refreshing about the way England lost the final.

We just weren't as good.
