Hello from CNN, I'm Joe Beck, with the five things you need to know for Tuesday, May 20th.

After a two-hour phone call between President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin,

a ceasefire in Ukraine doesn't appear any closer.

Yesterday's call was hyped up by Trump, who said last week, he doesn't think there'll be

any breakthrough in peace talks until he and Putin speak.

Here's his assessment of how that went.

I said, when are we going to end this bloodshed, this blood bath?

It's a blood bath.

And I do believe he wants to end it.

But Putin's response was a lot more measured.

The U.S. President expressed his position on the secession of hostilities, seeks fire.

And for my end, I emphasize that Russia also stands for a peaceful resolution to Ukrainian

crisis.

We must simply determine the most effective paths to our peace.

According to a Kremlin aid, neither Putin nor Trump discussed a timeframe for a possible truce.

Meanwhile, Ukraine and Russia have accused each other of launching overnight drone attacks, just hours after the call.

Trump's expected to make a visit to Capitol Hill today today to try to convince GOP holdouts to

back his so-called big, beautiful bill.
