Welcome to Current Affairs. My name is Nathan Robinson. I am the editor-in-chief of Current Affairs magazine. It is my exceptional privilege to be joined today by Dr. Cornell West. He is the Professor of Philosophy and Christian Practice at Union Theological Seminary.

Previously, the Professor of the Practice of Public Philosophy at Harvard University.

His many books include race matters, democracy matters, prophecy deliverance,

the American evasion of philosophy and the

ethical dimensions of Marxist thought. Dr. West, thank you so much for joining us on current affairs

today. Well, my brother, I want to thank you. And first, I just want to salute you for being such

a force for good. Congratulations on your 50s issue.

There's been Magnepson, and, of course, that powerful book that you and Norm Chomsky wrote.

The myth of American idealism begins looking for a place in the parking lot.

It ends up with the great A.J. Mustie, who has been overlooked.

Indeed, indeed.

Well, thank you. Thank you very much for that kindness, Dr. West.

You know, I wanted to talk to you in particular, though,

because, you know, Professor Chomsky is someone who I think their voice,

his voice is so necessary and powerful in dark times.

And you were another person who I turned to for solace and encouragement in dark times and you were another person who I turned to for

solace and encouragement in dark and bleak times and that is what I think we are very

much in you are someone who talks I one of the reasons I want to talk to you is

because you were one of the few people in American public life who talks

honestly and unashamedly about love. And there was a recent quote from, you probably saw, Vice President

J.D. Vance gave a quote where he was talking about essentially why we didn't really need to

care that much about immigrants. And he talked about, he said, oh, there's a Christian concept of the Ordo Amoris.
