It's three minutes after ten and in a break with tradition, I'm going to start the show with

Idiot's Corner today. If you are not familiar with this programme or indeed this feature,

it doesn't happen much. Back in the heydays of Brexit, I used to get bombarded by people who

seem to share a brain cell and whose lack of understanding of even relatively simple issues was

matched only by their certainty

that they were right. We may have a little look at the deal, for example, that the European

Union has just signed with Australia and compare it to the one that Boris Johnson belched

upon Britain not too long ago as a timely reminder of what happens when you put idiots in charge

of important things.

But Idiot's Corner, and I make no apology for the slightly undiplomatic language, as you will

understand when you meet the latest entrance into Idiot's Corner, is a little place that we reserve.

Maybe no more than once or twice a show, maximum three or four times a show.

Sometimes we go for days without putting anyone in it

because these people now tend, I think, to gravitate towards echo chambers on Facebook and

Twitter and what have you. But when we get an absolute peach of a plum, if that's not a mixed

metaphor, then we have to throw the gates open. So massive. And also, I've been falling out of love with it a bit lately because you sort of find yourself wondering whether some people are so keen, so desperate for the oxygen of attention.

I mean, they can go for weeks without ever talking to another human being in real life.

But you wonder whether they're so desperate for the oxygen of attention that they deliberately

submit idiotic text in order to, I don't know, to goal me.

Luckily, I can press a button, as you know, in the studio and see every text that you

have ever sent into the studio, whoever is presenting,

going back in some cases years. So I can establish pretty quickly whether somebody is a genuine
