There's only one way to find out. You've got to go and see and talk to people and report. So that's what we did. The destination, a massive

former factory the Mexican government is now using to house more than 600 asylum seekers that the United States is forcing to wait in Mexico.

The result of that reporting, today you'll hear from the people directly affected by this who are stuck in this mangled

system, a system that seems to be the new normal at the border, at least for now. Mother Jones reporters, Fernando Echabary, and Julia Lorry.

we wanted to see how one of president Trump's most significant policies is playing out now that it's been in place for most of the year.

So that policy is often called Remain in Mexico, although its official name is the M protection protocols or MPP.

And while the name may make you think that it's designed to protect migrants,

most people would say that it does the opposite.
