I am talking about eggs.

Now, many animals lay eggs, which can be eaten.

They can last in fertilized form until they hatch.

Humans have actually eaten animal eggs for nourishment for tens of thousands of years.

There are indications of that in ancient rock art,

long before chickens were domesticated and people started more formal farming in the past few hundred years. Today, eggs actually remain a staple in Western diets. They're popular,

they're high in protein, as we just heard. They're heralded for their taste. And everybody

knows their versatility.

Hard-boiled or poached, scrambled or fried, even deviled a practice that we checked.

That actually dates all the way back to ancient Rome.
