Good evening once again. I am Stephanie Ruhl, and Trump's war in Iran has now lasted more than two months, and we are just one hour away from the deadline for the president to either

end the conflict or officially request authorization from Congress under the War Powers Act.

But Defense Secretary Pete Higg said, well, he seems to think there is a loophole.

On Iran, ultimately, I would defer to the White House and White House counsel on that.

However, we are in a ceasefire right now, which our understanding means the 60-day clock pauses or stops in a ceasefire.

So you're not in.

It's our understanding, just so you know.

Okay. Well, I do not believe the statute would support that. I think the 60 days runs maybe tomorrow.

And it's going to pose a really important legal question for the administration.

We'll have to see whether that theory proves true. However, if hostilities were to resume, it would definitely change the calculus.

And Axios is reporting that according to two separate sources, military commanders were set to brief the president as soon as today on new plans for potential military actions in Iran.

Those could include a wave of what they call short and powerful strikes to break the deadlock in peace talks, as well as an operation to completely take over the straight-of-form moves.

Meanwhile, the president is not publicly acknowledging that negotiations are even at an impasse.

Nobody knows what the talks are, except myself and a couple of other people.

They want to make a deal badly.

We have a problem because nobody knows for sure who the leaders are.
