As another round of US tariffs is expected to come into effect this week,

countries around the world are bracing for impact and looking at retaliation.

President Donald Trump said he'll be imposing tit-for-tat duties on nations with levies on

US goods on April 2nd, as well as 25% on all

foreign cars and car parts. But he's also hinted that some of this might be negotiable.

So will this mean more American jobs for the auto industry? And is now a good time to go out

and buy a new car before they hit. We asked CNN's Vanessa Yakevich.

Well, Joe, if plants shut down in Canada and Mexico, American parts suppliers, which

employ 550,000 workers nearly twice as many as auto assembly plants, could be impacted.

And there could be between 10 to 20 percent fewer cars produced across North America due to these tariffs.

And there's, of course, retaliatory tariffs, which could make cars more expensive to foreign buyers.
