Summary

President Trump seems even more angry at the media than usual. His lawyers just filed a lawsuit against The New York Times that First Amendment lawyers are dismissing as a total joke. The suit, however, is also chock full of angry rants that appeared dictated by Trump himself. And he announced it with a Truth Social tirade that boiled with fury. Meanwhile, Trump himself snapped directly at reporters in strange ways, hitting one with a bizarre threat and engaging in a bizarre dominance display over the other. This comes as a new poll from the Economist reveals shockingly low support for Trump among independents, a key metric for gauging political strength—or weakness. We talked to Paul Waldman, who recently argued on his Substack, The Cross Section, that Trump’s powers of persuasion are failing him. We discuss how Trump both despises and relies on the media, the real reasons for his mounting anger, and how it’s all revealing big cracks in his authoritarian project.  Looking for More from the DSR Network? at reporters in ways that seemed strange even by his standards. Is Trump angry because his

magical political powers are failing him?

a key metric for gauging political strength or weakness.

So we're talking to Paul about all this today.

1:13.4

Hey, Paul. Good to see you, man.

1:15.5

Good to see you too, Greg.

1:16.8

So let's start with some audio of Trump.

1:19.3

A reporter asked him if it's appropriate to engage in so much business activity while in office.

1:24.9

Trump said his kids are running the business, but then Trump asked for the

1:28.3

reporter's nationality, and the reporter answered that he's Australian. Then this happened.

1:33.9

In my opinion, you are hurting Australia very much right now. And they want to get along with me.

1:39.4

You know, your leader is coming over to see me very soon. I'm going to tell them about you.

1:44.8

You said a very bad tone.

1:46.5

So Trump actually threatened to tell Australia's prime minister about this reporter's impudent

question.

1:53.1

But Paul, what struck me about this is that Trump thinks his self-dealing should be
