President Trump is further extending his control over Washington, D.C.

Reporters say he's taking over the management of Union Station, stripping Amtrak of their authority.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy made the announcement Wednesday, saying the station has, quote,

fallen into disrepair, vowing to restore it.

The takeover is part of President Trump's broader push to assert federal power over the district.

He has requested $2 billion from Congress to, quote, beautify the city

and deployed thousands of National Guard troops and federal officers to eliminate all crime and homeless people from D.C.

Critics call the auctions a federal overreach, but Duffy insists the administration is acting in everyone's best interest,

saying they're determined to make Washington and Union Station, quote, safe and beautiful again.

And at least 34 people are dead after intense rains swept through parts of Pakistan and India Wednesday.

Reporters say flash floods and heavy downpour in the Himalayan region have killed 100 people in August alone.

While health officials say more than 200,000

people have been forced from their homes. One of the latest tragedies struck in Indian-controlled

Kashmir, when the side of a mountain collapsed on a popular Hindu pilgrimage route. Dozens

were killed and the search for the missing is still underway.

Scientists warn climate change is making the season's monsoon rains more dangerous than ever.

Since late June, floods in the region have claimed more than 800 lives.

Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of families are bracing for more damage, as forecasters say rain is expected to continue in the days ahead.
