I sat down yesterday to write today's column about all the power that Donald Trump has amassed,

and I was trying to look at all the different things that he has done.

What is the common theme?

What connects all the things that he is doing? Whether you like this president, whether you don't like this president, whether you agree with his policies or not,

clearly in just six months, he has become the dominant figure while the Democrats are weak, largely ineffective, and don't have a national spokesman,

which is not a typical for a party that not only loses the White House, but loses the House and Senate as well.

So that produced a column that I'll call story number one.

There used to be guardrails around Trump in the first term.

A number of those people got fired.

They wanted to stop the president from doing things that they thought went too far.

Obviously in the second term,

he is surrounded by loyalists who wanted to do whatever the hell he wants. So he's burst

through the guardrails, sometimes comes close to defying the courts.

He is a constant war with the media.

He sued ABC, got $16 million.

He sued CBS, got $16 million.

He went after Colombia, which paid a $200 million fine.

Harvard apparently is close to an agreement to pay $500 million. He goes after these elite law firms employed people that he doesn't like. Now, you know, and it may feel this more
