Welcome to The Beat. I am Ari Melbourne. As night falls in New York tonight, Donald Trump's own prediction that he would be arrested today has been proven wrong.

That's our top story as the legal and political world watches to see what comes next.

Also tonight, I will be joined by Trump's defense lawyer in the criminal probe out of Georgia.

That's a little bit later on. But right now, we're tracking developments

out of New York, where Trump's lawyers had cautioned that his unusual prediction of this arrest

today was, and they said this as of this weekend, it was his reaction to public reporting. It was

not based on any guidance that he received from law enforcement. Well, that's what his lawyers said,

and when you fact check or proof things up, you can see

today that that's clearly the case, because, again, no arrest as of 6 p.m. Eastern.

We do know the New York grand jury will meet again tomorrow, so it could hear more witnesses,

could hold a vote, could continue on without any major action. As we've cautioned throughout

this story, the legal

process has its own pace. Outside speculation, even from someone who might be a defendant, is just that.

Now, there were some Trump allies who did some smattering of protests today in Mar-Lago's area there.

You can see them on the street. They took Trump's side rather than what was

kind of a light pushback from Speaker McCarthy who suggested this is no time for any protests,

even if Trump is indicted. That's being monitored. Everyone has, of course, the free speech right

to speak out, but given Trump's past demands that people, quote, protests, which turned into

violence, there's a heavy amount of,

well, scrutiny on that. People watching, reporters watching, and we think law enforcement,

especially in New York, ready for anything. Meanwhile, there's fallout from the fireworks that

came out of the grand jury yesterday when the Trump requested witnesses, well, I should say
