Hope you had a great Fourth of July weekend.

Here's what I was doing at 11 o'clock yesterday morning.

Trying to figure out what to do with my program.

I will explain.

When I got to work yesterday, you know, we planned these things out in advance.

We've got segments. We've got different people booked. And then I was told that there would be a news conference at exactly 11 Eastern about the horrifying, just heartbreaking situation with the Texas floods where the death toll just kept rising.

I mean, it's hard to find the words.

As I'm speaking to you now, the death toll is at least 81, and that also may continue to rise.

And it's just, you know, a story that has gripped the nation and already there's starting to be a debate about it,

which is, was this a product of budget cuts and not having enough people in that part of Texas? Or is it simply

a question of bad communication?

For one thing, the warnings were sent out in the middle of the night.

By the time most people woke up, it was too late.

Anyway, because I was told about this news conference,

you know, which easily could have gone a half hour or more,
