Starvation Heights by True Crime Heavyweight, Greg Olson, was first published in 2005,

and is about Dr. Linda Laura Hazard, who could not have had a more appropriate last name.

It's the doctor part I take issue with, though, because she had no medical degree. She did not go to

medical school. She didn not go to medical school.

She didn't even practice traditional medicine. She was an alternative health practitioner that was

allowed to use the title of doctor due to some wild loophole that grandfathered in

wakadoodle, non-doctors, and allowed them to practice medicine as doctors with no

actual medical training. So this story is just a shit show from Jump. Much like our friend

Dr. Kellogg, who did go to real medical school, Dr. Hazard believed that the gut was the root

of all evil and all health problems.

While Dr. Kellogg relied on a wild diet and endless enemas to achieve optimum gut health,

Dr. Hazard used a much more dangerous method, fasting.

She established a sanitarium called Wilderness Heights in Washington State that,
