John chapter 2, verses 23 through 25.

Now, when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he was doing.

But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them

because he knew all people and needed no one to bear witness about man,

for he himself knew what was in man.

This is a fascinating passage.

Did you hear that? Many trusted in Jesus's name, but Jesus did not entrust himself to them. So many people here in John 2 believed in Jesus, but Jesus did not believe

them. So clearly there's a kind of belief in Jesus, but Jesus did not believe them. So clearly there's a kind of belief in Jesus that is not

actually Christian, is not actually meaning you're a follower of Jesus. And case in point,

Nicodemus right after this in John 3 says, we know that you've come from God as a teacher. We've

seen the signs.

That's the same language that's used here in chapter 2, verse 23.

And Jesus looks back at Nicodemus and says, your belief, your trust, is insufficient for salvation.

You need to be born again, which, again, is shocking.

Here's a devout, passionate, respected respected law following, God-fearing man.

He's devoted his entire life to entering the kingdom of heaven.

He prays to God.

He studies God's word.

He teaches it.

He lives it.

All to honor God.
