you didn't hear it from me, but it sounds like the EU is about to find Apple over half a billion dollars.

According to a report over the weekend, the European Union is expected to find Apple somewhere in the

neighborhood of 500 million euros, roughly

$539 million US, over access to music streaming services. The paper says the

fine will be the culmination of a European Commission antitrust

probe into whether Apple has used its own platform to favor its services over

those of competitors. It sounds like what the company will be fine for is its

anti-steering stance. The EC is said to be looking into whether Apple kept

developers from letting iPhone users know that they could pay less for services

like Spotify or Spotify or Spotify or Spotify by going straight to the source rather than buying

through an iOS app.

I say Spotify though the anti-steering thing's been an issue for a number of companies.

Epic games being a big example. Spotify leaps to mind though, partly because this investigation is tied specifically to music and partly because the E.C. started playing Columbo after Spotify lodged a formal complaint with regulators in 2019.

Knowing the way the wind was blowing, it's kind of surprising that Apple didn't modify its

steering stance in the five years since this thing started, especially considering a move made
