Summary

On this week’s episode on the Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet, we are joined by Liverpool and England star Trent Alexander-Arnold.

We join Trent as he returns from injury in the closing stages of the 23/24 season that has already seen Liverpool win the League Cup and in contention to win the Premier League and Europa League in Jurgen Klopp’s final season.

The boyhood Liverpool star reveals what the dressing room was like when Klopp announced his departure, the influence the German boss has had on his career and how much a title would mean to him, the club and city.

At just 25 years-old Trent has established himself as one of the world’s best players and has won every major trophy he’s competed in and following a disappointing 22/23 season he tells how his mindset changed over the summer through the help of a psychologist.

Trent also takes on Gary at darts whilst answering quick-fire questions before finally talking about his After Academy, a charity he set up to help academy footballers who didn’t make it to the professional game.

And it's quite an exciting one. It's with the Liverpool, do I call him right back?

0:18.0

I don't think you can call him a right back because he's a no ordinary right back.

0:21.6

Trent Alexander Arnold obviously one of the most talented,

0:24.6

well one of the most talented defenders I think you'll see in the game.

I can't make any higher compliment for him than saying this is David Beckham, Kevin DeBroner playing at fullback.

You don't see fullbacks playing football like you see him, ever.

It's never it's never it's just you're just like that

1:01.0

When we go to anfield it's exactly the opposite there's no space there

1:05.0

There's no room there you literally would take a touch and you just had to deliver it down the line

1:09.0

Oh she was getting absolutely smashed Do you not Do you not have the same problem with this media? No, no, but you know what I hate about United? When you come off the pitch and it slubs down. Oh, yeah. That's dangerous that. A little nudged down there. Yeah, the nudges. You always think when you speak into a current player, it's always a little bit more reserved, rightly so, because they're a current player who have obligations to the club. You know, I'm not looking for any glorified headline out of Trent Alexander Arnold. They don't want one and he won't look to give me one. What I'm looking to talk to me about is the position. It's challenges on and off the pitch. Being at a big club, the demands of being an academy player at a big club

1:45.0

Yeah, I'm looking forward to it really looking forward to it

Has you even got that sort of fear factor? Yeah, he has, has it? Yeah. There's been times when I've needed the Bollahood, and there's times when, like, I've not needed it, and I've kind of need a little bit of love and guidance, and he's been there for him. He wants us to be the hardest team to beat. Every team fears, thinking to beat this team,

2:19.2

we have to do something very special.

2:21.7

You're going to be sat on the edge of your own box, low block. No block.
