So many trends hang on for more than one year, while others fizzle out quietly with little more than a whimper after a year. So many things are out this year like shiplap and all gray interiors. Wallpaper is hot, and so much more.

Are you on trend?

Hi, this is Anita Joyce here with Kelly Wilkins, and this is Decorating Tips and Tricks.

0:15.4

Today's episode is on the 2003 Trend Report.

0:19.9

So today we're going to dive in and talk all about what we see coming

0:24.1

down the road for 2023. And as you can imagine, it is very home-centric. It's very sanctuary

0:34.5

creating. It's a lot of wellness, at least from my perspective. Are you seeing that, too,

0:40.0

Anita? Yes. I would say that what I'm seeing are trends that are still being impacted by the

0:46.2

pandemic. Which I think was really the only good thing that came out of that whole experience is that people really gave a hard look at

0:56.6

the home that they were living in, the home that they had created. And they tried to figure out

1:02.7

really quickly in some cases how that home could serve them better and how they would be more

1:07.2

comfortable there. So I think now that we've had some time to reflect on all of that,

1:11.4

and people have had time to have things arrive like sofas and whatnot or get the contractor in,

1:17.0

people are really making their homes what they want them to be. And I think that's a wonderful thing,

1:22.5

because your home really does have to support you. Absolutely. Are you ready to get started? Yeah. Kick it off. Okay, so the thing

1:30.5

that I am seeing is about the whole open concept of homes. And the word on the home decor street is

1:41.3

that open concept is out because people are home all day and they don't want to be

1:47.9

in the same room all day since people have been working from home. And I get that. I see that. However,

1:55.5

I am seeing that open concept is still hot in new homes being built, at least where I am in Houston.

2:03.6

Now, I'm going to add a caveat to that and say that the difference is I'm seeing that

2:09.6

there needs to be a work-from-home option. So I am seeing a lot more closed studies where you

2:16.6

can close the door, and there is a study in most houses.

2:21.3

So I think that's the difference, and I think that's what people need is a separate workspace.
