Today we're going to discuss a problem that plagues almost everyone who's ever

grown a house plant. It is the number one problem. We're talking about root rot.

Before we get talking about root rot. Before we get into understanding

root rot and solving it and or preventing it I want to tell you a quick announcement

Okay, Root Rott. It is far and away the number one problem but let's understand what it exactly is. It's not necessarily a single disease. It is sort of a basket of conditions that can be caused by many different things.

So the first one you have is Pythium.

This is not a true fungi, but it is one of the most common ones

that you will deal with.

There's different varieties that will affect a house plant, a

shrub or a garden plant, but it's very difficult to remove once it's in your soil. So keeping an eye on it is going to be a really big deal. Next you have phytophora.

This is caused by a water mold anywhere that water accumulates or flows. This disease can

occur. Surprise, surprise. Root rot happens when you over water.

Why?

Because things like phytophora can start to proliferate in that water.

Next you have fusarium.
