Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, Part 4, Chapter 16 to 18.

In the last chapters, as the crew neared the island in the oppressive heat, tensions rose.

Dr. Livesee warned of potential tropical disease, and Captain Smollett, aware of the impending newtony plot, allowed the crew to go ashore, letting

the loyal men secure the ship. Jim secretly joined the pirates ashore, but quickly regrets it when

he witnesses Silver kill Tom, a loyal sailor for refusing to join the mutiny.

Faying into the island, Jim encounters Ben Gunn,

a marooned ex-crew member of Flint, who offers to help in exchange

for safe passage home. Ben reveals he knows the island well and hints at having located the buried treasure.
