Summary

If you’ve been reading about financial independence for a while, you’ve likely seen that the topic is getting more popular lately.

Although FIRE (Financial Independence / Retire Early) is far bigger than it was when I created this site in 2012, it’s still nowhere near mainstream.

That may change though…

A full-length documentary called Playing with FIRE is currently in the works and the film has the potential to reach millions of people that blogs or podcasts never would.

This is a huge deal.

I was asked to take part in the film and was lucky to get to know the talented people behind the documentary.

On today’s episode of the Financial Independence Podcast, I’m excited to welcome the director and executive producer, Travis Shakespeare!

0:19.9	He's a producer of popular TV shows. He's been nominated for many different awards like
0:25.4	Emmys and James Beard Awards and he's generally a very impressive guy but that's
0:31.4	not really how I know him.
0:32.6	I know him as a friend, and we go way back to the Ecuador Chutaco back in 2015, which is where we met,
0:40.2	and we've kept in touch ever since, and he's a really smart guy that I've had great chats with over the years.
0:46.1	So I'm excited to get him on just to talk about his story and some of the things that we've
0:50.0	discussed over the years.
0:51.0	But more importantly, I got him on the show to talk about
0:53.2	the project that he's currently working on which is a documentary that I'm
0:56.3	extremely excited about I think it's really going to be the project that takes this
1:00.9	whole five thing to the next level and
1:03.2	potentially brings this whole Phi idea into the mainstream.
1:06.4	So for the past year, Travis has been working with my other friend,
1:08.9	Scott and Taylor, and they've wrapped up filming and the premiere of the trailer is going to take place next week at FinCon.
1:16.6	So it's a really exciting time. They're just launching a kickstarter to help fund the final push of this thing and hopefully it will be released in January or February of next year.
1:27.0	So it's really exciting. I'm personally in the film which is insane to me and so is a lot of people that have been on this podcast actually like
1:33.9	Mr Money Mustache and G. A.L. Collins and Mrs. Frugalwoods and it's just
1:38.4	going to be really exciting to see the concept of financial independence and early retirement on the big screen.
