You have to have a pretty good discipline or system for budgeting and knowing how your money is going in and out.

Because the way that you get most of your points is through the sign-up bonuses.

For example, you might get 100,000 points if you spend at least $4,000 in three months.

Before you get that card, you should have a plan for how to do that $4,000.

Maybe open this card right before you have to remodel a kitchen or buy a new car, pay a

tuition payment, something where it's money you would have spent anyway and you can get

that sign-up bonus for the money you were going to spend.
