We walked into the nursery and it was cold and white and sterile.

But in the middle of the room was one of those little clear cribs, with a little tiny

baby boy wrapped up in the stiff, starch white hospital blanket.

And my husband and I just bent over that little crib and stared.

And we just knew, we knew that this was our son.

However, we became aware of the situation around us.

The fact that there was police protection outside the nursery door was a red flag, that

this was going to be a long adoption process.
