Gabriela Gomez-Lopez has been working at a local beauty salon. She was known to everyone

as kind, quiet and, most importantly, for her, cautious.

She did not take risks.

She didn't tend to go out late.

She did not trust strangers.

Now her commute home was pretty short, very familiar and it was routine for her.

But in Mexico City, routine does not mean safe.

It's early evening, just after 5pm.

The city is thick with noise, carhorns and the smell of hot tarmac.

Lydia's on her way home, the same journey she's taken countless times before.

She's texting her brother something pretty ordinary, normal, and it's likely that nothing

fills off, not yet.

But just a few minutes into the journey, something shifts.

The driver, speeding along, completely misses the turn that Lydia normally takes. He doesn't slow down.

And when she asks him to stop, probably hoping this is a genuine mistake, he ignores her.

She tries again, her voice firmer this time, but the man just keeps on driving.
