So we've got a listener's question. David Bills has asked us a question, gang. It's a really good one. Ideas for an episode, he says. This is my first season playing a league and playing competitive golf. How about an episode discussing all the things that are expected or that change when you go from casual rounds of your friends to a competitive round, like at a golf club.

0:23.8

I really like that question.

0:25.2

I think it's a really good question.

0:27.3

And I really like that he is asking it because I do think not enough people ask this question.

0:32.8

I think they're almost a bit embarrassed, like they should just know.

0:35.1

And there are quite a few almost unwritten rules that might change compared to when you play social to, you know, when you're actually in a competition. I think we've talked a bit about this, Lou, off pod, like you've played in something this year where people were maybe getting the rules a little bit wrong in a club match, wouldn't you? Even in the, was it a can't remember you said. Yeah, I won't get into the details of that, but yes. That was like a, as in, they're pretty probably regular members, playing regular competitions and they're still getting it wrong. So the first thing for me, I would say, is ask the questions. Don't be afraid to get things wrong.

1:12.1

Don't make any taboos of it because that does happen. People are scared to ask the question

1:16.5

because when it comes to golf rules, people can be a little bit kind of not nice about answers.

1:24.8

And if you don't know it, they make you feel silly and stuff like that.

1:28.1

And this is a new golf.

1:29.1

Why would they know all these rules?

1:31.4

So just keep asking.

1:33.1

It's great that you're asking the questions.

1:35.9

So let's think about, let's give this, let's give David some basic breakdowns and things that will change from social golf to playing in competition.

1:43.4

First thing I would want anyone who's playing in a competition to know is just do a bit of

1:47.1

research into the rules, A of golf, make sure you're happy with drops, yellow hazards to red

1:53.5

hazards, ground under repair, one club lengths or two club lengths, paths.

1:58.9

At the course you're playing at, are there any quirky local rules that you don't

2:02.4

really know of because you don't have a card in your hand? Like, you do get a drop off this path,

2:06.4

you don't get a drop off that path. Familiarizing yourself with all those things will be good

2:10.9

before you even tee up. You can do them in the week or months before playing. And then also

2:17.3

being aware of the competition you're playing in.
