Heather Sellers' award-winning memoir, You Don't Look Like Anyone I Know, has been featured by O, the Oprah Magazine, where it was a book of the month pick, Good Morning America, Rachel Ray, NPR, The New York Times, Dick Gordon's The Story, Good Housekeeping, More, Elle, and many others.

Heather Sellers was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. Her PhD in English/Creative Writing is from Florida State University. A professor of English at the University of South Florida in the creative writing program, she teaches poetry, nonfiction, and writing for children. Awarded an NEA Fellowship for fiction, she published a short story collection, Georgia Under Water, a Barnes and Noble Discover Great New Writers selection. She's published a children's book, Spike and Cubby's Ice Cream Island Adventure, three volumes of poetry, and three books on the craft of writing. Her popular textbook for writers in any genre, The Practice of Creative Writing, is out in its second edition from Bedford/St. Martins. She's taught at the University of Texas—San Antonio and St. Lawrence University, and, for 18 years, at Hope College in Holland, Michigan.  She's currently at work on a novel for young readers, essays, and a new memoir.

A little backstory on Heather, so I met her at a Krapaloo writing retreat last August.

Immediately fell in love.

There's something really special to me about a teacher who can hone in on the style of teaching and not just present as an expert, but also

really present as a teacher. And I was drawn to her initially because she had written a writing

textbook. So I was like,

okay, this woman knows how to teach. Sometimes you go to study with wonderful, wonderful,

prolific writers or yoga teachers or what have you. And it's one thing to be able to be a beautiful

practitioner, a writer, a yoga teacher, or yogini, and yet it's a whole other story to be able

to teach. And that's something that Heather does incredibly well. So I've been working with her

monthly since then on a private basis and absolutely adore her. She is full of not only information that's incredibly helpful,

and it's also inspiration. She's incredibly nurturing and supportive. And I think that's really

what one needs as a teacher, particularly when if you're like me, you're dabbling in an entirely new genre,

which really is a whole other language. So maybe some of you can relate. Maybe you're trying

a new style of cooking or a new type of yoga or you are reading new books, like you're switching

from fiction to nonfiction. whatever it is, it's
