This week, Dan continues a series exploring the work and impact of our signature training certificate,

a year-long program that guides individuals through deeper engagement with story of harm and trauma in their own lives and the lives of others.

Dan is joined by his wife, Becky Allender, who shares about her own experience of going through the program

and the impact that it continues to have in her life.

Well, I didn't need to go too far to find someone who has benefited from involvement with the

Allender Center certificate program in trauma and abuse. So my love, Becky, I would love for you

to share a bit about how you got involved in this lovely and somewhat crazy endeavor and where it

has begun to take you. Well, I remember about five and a half years ago, there was a meeting at a

restaurant, and it was Kathy Lorzell and you, honey, me and a woman from St. Louis, and I don't remember

her name right now, but she had an idea for people to find out how they could engage their

stories and how they could actually do this more than one week

at a time and progress through goodness of sharing your story.

And I thought it was great because I've known since your early years of being a professor

that you really wanted to offer that to people who could

not take one, two or three years off from their lives and get a degree in counseling.

And so this was the very thing that you had prayed about and wondered about and hoped for.

And it seemed like, wow, maybe this can

actually come true. So I began that first year in St. Louis as the prayer intercessor for the

leaders and for people who were coming to engage their stories.

And sadly, I have to confess that we just didn't know enough.

And you were the only prayer intercessor.
